After extensive studies at the universities of Växjö, Lund and Stockholm, DS was recruited by FOA (Swedish Defence Research Agency, later renamed FOI) in September 1989 as Research Officer. Promoted in 1997 to Director of Research jumping several ranks. In 1999 DS was transferred to Director General’s Staff, after serving on an ad hoc basis for two years. Was given the task to deal with international cooperation, from start Asia but later with a wider responsibility. DS has been representative on the Swedish side in numerous bilateral negotiations on Defence Cooperation, including Singapore, Saudi Arabia, Malaysia, Rumania, Bulgaria, South Africa, Thailand, Norway, Finland, Denmark, Greece and Australia. For the last 7 years at FOI DS had the title Senior Advisor to the Director General.
